Dr. Tom Harvey is a highly regarded teacher, facilitator, executive coach and speaker. The mission of his growing leader-development company is to develop and support a new and vital cadre of leaders for the 21st century, who alone and together, will draw upon their passions, energies and abilities to shape the health and prosperity of local, national and global communities.
In 2009 he established his company, Dr. Tom Harvey-Advancing Self Leadership, LLC, which he operates from the Enterprise Center in Salem, MA. He provides executive coaching, training, consulting and speaking services to individuals and teams of leaders in a variety of industries, including education, health care, hospitality, real estate and manufacturing.
His proprietary leadership model (Leader Vitality®)) and assessments (Leader Vitality Scale© , Leader Vitality 360© and the Leadership Team Vitality Scale©) grew out of his doctoral research and form the foundation of his work developing leaders. Dr. Harvey's work is consistently rated as having "lasting" or "transformational" impact by those who have engaged with him in leader-development projects.
Prior to establishing his business in 2009, Tom had a long and successful career as a teacher, coach, counselor and leader in Maine public and private schools. He is past president of the Maine School Counselor Association and the Eastern Maine Association for Counseling and Development. He was a consultant and trainer with the Maine Department of Education and a facilitator in leadership and communication training with corporate executives through Outward Bound Professional.
In 2008 he was certified as a trainer with the National Institute for School Leadership. In recent years he worked as an independent consultant with SchoolWorks, a respected North Shore company that conducts school quality reviews in urban areas throughout the United States. During his long and distinguished career as a professional educator, Tom spoke and led workshops both regionally and nationally.
Tom earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine, and two advanced degrees in counseling (M.Ed. and C.A.S.) and a doctorate in leadership (Ed.D.) from the University of Maine. He has taught, or is currently teaching, undergraduate and graduate-level courses in leadership theory, educational psychology and internship supervision at Endicott College, Salem State University, and Lesley University.
